In Fundations, we continued to practice reading and "tapping out" our CVC words. The kiddos are getting to be pros at this! This week, your children learned how to properly form the following uppercase letters: O, P, Q, R, S, T, and U.
To reinforce these letters at home, write some lowercase letters on small pieces of paper, fold them up, and put them in a bag. Have your child choose a letter and write the corresponding uppercase letter on a whiteboard or piece of scrap paper. You could also dictate letter sounds and have your child write the corresponding uppercase letter as well!
In Math, we reviewed the names and properties of solid shapes and discussed the differences/similarities between 2-D flat shapes and 3-D solid shapes. The children learned that we often see 2-dimensional shapes as part of 3-dimensional shapes or objects. Then we practiced stamping 3-dimensional blocks into play dough to see what 2-dimensional shapes they made. This was super fun!
The children watched as I selected children and tried to figure out what common attribute, or rule, I used to "catch" my fish. They did a really great job with this!
On Friday, I presented the following situation:
- I went to an amusement park, and there was a ride with a sign that said, "You must be as tall as this sign to ride." I wondered if any of you would be tall enough to ride, but the sign did not have any numbers or measurements on it. I needed a way to remember and describe how tall the sign was. I did not have any string, but I found some stick-on notes in my bag and used them to measure the sign. It was as tall as 12 stick-on-notes!
- Dinosaur Sight Word Write the Room- Children found sight words around the room and wrote them on a recording sheet.
- Word Work: Read and Reveal CVC words
- Writing Center: Children created the covers for their personal narrative story.
- Play dough Math Center: Children used dinosaur toys to create patterns by pressing the dinosaur's feet in the play dough.
