This week in Fundations, the children continued to tap out and read words with digraphs. They now know that "ck" only comes at the end of words. They also learned two more Trick Words- I and you.
1. Each pair of children was given a deck of cards. Each player took two cards from the top of the deck and placed them faceup. Players added the two numbers and took turns stating their total. (4 plus 2 equals 6!)
3 The player with the greater total took all four cards. If there was a tie, both players took two more cards and the player with the greater total took the cards from both rounds.
4 The game ended when there were not enough cards left for each player to have another turn. The player with the most cards won.
Before playing, we discussed strategies for solving the addition problems, which included counting on from one number, or adding on a number line.

- Writing Center: Children wrote true stories in their writing folders.
- Math Center: Children played "Car Race."
- Word Work: Children looked at the picture on each card and identified the digraph sound. Then, they matched the number on the card to their paper and colored in the digraph to show their answer.
- Technology Center: Children explored "Starfall" on their chrome books.
