In Fundations we introduced two new letters, d-dog-/d/ and s-snake- /s/. In addition to our Drill Sounds, Vowel Extensions, Magnetic Journals, and Dry Erase Tablets/Student Notebooks, we practiced capitalizing names in sentences, and worked more with syllables and rhyming words. I created a book titled "My Froggy" which I projected on our SmartBoard that incorporated several easy to spot rhyming words. I read the story once emphasizing the words that rhymed, and then read it a second time, leaving out the rhyming words for the children to fill in. They really enjoyed this! We also came up with our own rhyming words! I included the story below if you would like to read it with your child :) Just click on the link to download.

- Wrote the number 10 on board and asked the children to hold up 10 fingers. I asked, "What number comes next?"
- I then changed the zero to a 1 and asked if anyone can think of a way to show 11 fingers. Although a couple of children said they could use their toes, they all agreed that it would be impossible.
- Next, I called two children to the front. One child held up all 10 fingers. I asked the children how many more fingers the other child must hold up so that together the partners showed 11 fingers. After they all yelled out "ONE" we repeated that “eleven is 10 and 1 more.”
- We repeated the same procedure with number 12 and then learned this awesome rap! Check out below!
- To practice even more, I assigned each child a partner. I wrote numbers 13-19 on the board and had each set of partners hold up the correct number of fingers as "10 and some more."
