In Fundations, we continued to practice reading and "tapping out" our CVC words. The kiddos are getting to be pros at this! This week, your children learned how to prop properly form the following uppercase letters: M, N O, P, Q, and R,
To reinforce these letters at home, write some lowercase letters on small pieces of paper, fold them up, and put them in a bag. Have your child choose a letter and write the corresponding uppercase letter on a whiteboard or piece of scrap paper. You could also dictate letter sounds and have your child write the corresponding uppercase letter as well!
In Math, I invited two children of different heights to stand next to me. I asked the class to arrange us in order from shortest to tallest. Next, I invited another child to join us. Once again, the children helped us decide where the third child should stand. They noticed that we looked like a staircase! Finally, I explained that the kiddos will work together to order straws by length. As I walked around, I noticed that they all remembered to line up the bottom of the straws to help them measure!

The next day, we reviewed the names and properties of solid shapes and discussed the differences/similarities between 2-D flat shapes and 3-D solid shapes. The children learned that we often see 2-dimensional shapes as part of 3-dimensional shapes or objects. Then we practiced stamping 3-dimensional blocks into play dough to see what 2-dimensional shapes they made. This was super fun!
On Monday, we read Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
After introducing my Fairytales anchor chart and reading the story, we discussed the characters and the setting. Next, I selected a child to retell the story using the pictures. Finally, the kiddos cut out the pictures and glued them in the correct order on a sentence strip to retell the story.
They also completed the writing prompt- "At the top of my beanstalk there would be _____. " Children then drew a picture to match their words. We also completed a character speech bubble match :)
Finally, the children learned a dinosaur poem this week! This time, we talked about opposites and underlined them in our poetry journals. The children were so excited to create a background for their dinosaurs :)
