In Fundations, the children were introduced to two new letters: v-van-/v/ and w-wind-/w/. They are so excited that we are almost at the end! Just a couple more letter to go!
Also in Fundations, I collected objects that ended with the letters taught so far and put them in a basket. Then, I called on a student to pick something out of the basket. I asked the student what they pulled out and had them name the letter that ended the word. Finally, the student wrote the letter following my verbalization on our class writing grid and the rest of the class practiced at their seats.
In Math, I introduced a roll-and-record graphing activity with the children. I modeled on the board how to roll a die, count the number of dots, and then write the corresponding number on the recording sheet. The goal of this activity was to see which number reached the top first. The children were so excited to share with the class which number “won!”
• If they guessed too high, I moved the right-hand monster along the number line until it covered the number guessed.
• If they guessed too low, I moved the left-hand monster along the number line until it covered the number guessed.
I called on the children to continue guessing numbers until the correct number was guessed, or "squeezed," between the two monsters. The kiddos absolutely LOVED this game!
