Mrs. Nork's Class |
I am pleased to announce that our first two days of kindergarten was a success! To my surprise, the children settled in almost immediately. We practiced our routines in the classroom and I introduced the calendar activities. I've included a slideshow presentation below that explains our morning routine. Feel free to review this with your child so they quick;y become experts :) Special note: Please remember that district policy states we are not allowed to give any food to the children, so if they forget their snack, it breaks my heart when there are tears :( Please try to send in a healthy, nut-free snack (or two) every day. At snack time I read "The BugaBees- Friends with Food Allergies" and discussed what we do to keep our friends safe. The children were great at sharing their stories about their own allergies or about friends and family they knew with allergies. I told them I was allergic to dogs (sadly) even though I have one! A special thank you to Ryan P.'s Family for sharing it with our class- the children LOVED it! We also watched a BrainPop on allergies and met Moby the silly Robot :) On Friday, I introduced the classroom rules to the children. The kiddos shared why rules keep us safe and what rules they would come up with if they were Miss Visicaro. They had such great ideas! After reviewing each of our five rules and reviewing our "Good Listeners" Anchor Chart, I read one of my favorite books about rules/safety tips "Officer Buckle and Gloria." Check out our classroom rules below! The children were also hard at work creating an adorable First Day of School Pencil Craft. To create this craft they had to cut, glue, write, and color! Boy oh boy am I asking a lot of them on their first two days! Once again, they surprised me with their awesome fine motor skills!!! I can't wait for you to see our finished product at Back to School Night :) Speaking of Back to School Night, make sure you bring your planners so you will be able to sign up for a November Parent Teacher Conference. Well that's it for now! I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day Weekend!
Warm Regards, Miss Visicaro
