Not only did your adorable kiddos exchange their Valentine's Day cards, but they also celebrated the 100th Day of School! Can you believe there is only 77 days left? I can't!
In Fundations, we continued to practice tapping out and blending CVC words. Your kiddos are now beginning to spell CVC words that are dictated to them.
This week, I performed the story "Baby Echo Finds Echo at Last." The children LOVE these stories. After I read and acted out the story, I asked the following questions:
• Who was in this story?
• Where did it take place?
• What was Baby Echo's problem? What did he do about it?
• How did things turn out? What happened in the end?
• How did Baby Echo feel at the beginning of the story?
• How did Baby Echo feel at the end of the story?
Feel free to read "Baby Echo Finds Echo at Last" with your child at home :)
To celebrate the 100th Day of School, the kiddos visited three math centers:
- Center 1: Children attached gum balls to a gum ball machine by counting by 5’s or 10’s.
- Center 2: Children decorated 100th day crowns.
- Center 3: Children played "Race to 100" with a partner by rolling two dice and moving that amount of spaces until someone reached 100.
First, we discussed the life of President Washington and filled in missing letters to complete an anchor chart about him. Next, I charted the children's ideas about what they would do if they were president of the United States. I told them they could be serious or silly :)
Then, children one at a time chose a domino and placed it under the correct number card. As more dominoes were sorted, we discussed why some totals were more common than others.
- Word Work:"If I can Spell" CVC Mats: Children read a CVC word and wrote three more CVC words by changing the initial sound.
- Writing Center: Children wrote a true story in their writing folders.
- Tablets: Children read leveled texts and answered comprehension questions on RAZ-Kids.
- Math Center: Children played Growing and Disappearing Train.
Take Care,
