In Fundations, we wrapped up Unit 2 by completing the rest of the uppercase letters (V, W, X, Y, and Z) and reviewing how to tap out and blend CVC words with an emphasis on the vowels (the trickiest sounds to remember!) If you have some free time this weekend, create CVC words with your child, remembering to change the vowel each time. For example, start with "mat" and change it to "met" and so forth.
To change it up this week, I called three children up to the front of the room and gave them each a vest to wear with a letter inside the front pocket. I challenged them to each say the letter sound in their vest and then blend the word to reveal the CVC word that all three children standing next to each other made. They LOVED this! It was a great opportunity for the children to shine!
We also played one of my favorites "CVC Roll, Read, and Trace." Each child rolled a die, read the word in the column and traced the word. We practiced reading -at, -et, -op, and -ig words. So much fun!
Well, I think that about wraps up our week. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! We look forward to watching and cheering on our pm kindergartener Tiara on Monday! She will perform in the Multi-Cultural Assembly- how exciting :)
Take Care,
Miss Visicaro
