In Fundations, we wrapped up Unit 2 by reviewing how to tap out and blend CVC words with an emphasis on the vowels (the trickiest sounds to remember!) If you have some free time this weekend, create CVC words with your child, remembering to change the vowel each time. For example, start with "map" and change it to "mop" and so forth.
In Math, we played the "Attribute Spinner Game." We began with three attribute spinners: one for shape, color and size. Each child took a turn spinning the spinner and chose the block that reflected the attributes shown on all three spinners. The children took turns spinning and collecting the blocks until all of the blocks were gone.
The next day, I presented the Class Number Grid. After we discussed what we noticed about it, I invited the children to look for patterns and share their observations.
Next, each child received a copy of the number grid (numbers 0-100) in a plastic sheet protector and used a dry erase marker to mark off numbers on the grid according to cues. We:
-Drew a line through the numbers from 1 to 10, 11 to 20, etc.
-Circled the numbers we say when we count by 5s and 10s starting at 0.
-Circled the number 10. Underlined the number that comes before it. Put an X on the number that comes after it.
-Circled all the numbers that start with 3.
-Drew a line through all the numbers that end with 2.
The next day, I asked the children to find a specific number and we used positional words to find the numbers that were under, above, and next to the original number.
During Guided Reading, the children rotated through 5 centers:
-Dinosaur Sight Word Write the Room- Children found sight words around the room and wrote them on recording sheet.
Writing Center- Children wrote a true story in their journals and drew a picture to match.
Tablets- Children read leveled texts and answered comprehension questions on individual tablets.
Play dough Center: Children used dinosaur toys to create patterns by pressing the dinosaur's feet in the play dough.
Word Work: CVC Booklets- Children cut and glued the letter tiles to make CVC words to match the picture. Then, they wrote the word.
Take Care,
Miss Visicaro
