I'm sure you were all as surprised as I was getting several inches of snow on Thursday after the beautiful day we had on Wednesday! I hope everyone enjoyed their day off as much as I did :)
This week we celebrated two birthdays: Saanvi and Aakarsh. A big thank you to Saanvi's Mom for coming in to read to the class and gifting the children with a book. How sweet! Also, thank you to Aakarsh's Mom for the goodie bags! So thoughtful!
During Fundations, your adorable and amazing children continued working on letter sounds and “tapping” out the words. Keep practicing tapping three letter words at home (mat, sat, pig, wig, top, lot)~ practice makes perfect. Students are beginning to understand the tapping of each sound, but it is a difficult skill to blend those sounds to say the word. The children also practiced tapping/writing CVC words without even seeing the letters.
I also introduced long and short vowel sounds in words like mad/made, pin/pine, and hat/hate. Your children learned that long vowels say their name, and short vowels say the letter sound.
In Math, we played the "Attribute Spinner Game." We began with three attribute spinners: one for shape, color and size. The kiddos took turns spinning the spinners and then chose the block that reflected the attributes shown on all three spinners.
During Guided Reading, the children rotated through 4 Valentine's Day themed centers:
-Valentine's Day Sight Word Write the Room- Children found sight words around the room and wrote them on a recording sheet.
-Word Work- Valentine's Day CVC Mats: Children looked at pictures and wrote the CVC word on the mat and read a sentence with the CVC word in it.
-Writing Center- Valentine's Day Booklets- Children filled in the missing words.
- Tablets- Children explored "Starfall."
Reminders: Valentine's Day cards are due on Tuesday.
Take Care,
Mrs. Nork
