In Fundations, we continued to practice reading and "tapping out" our CVC words. The kiddos are getting to be pros at this! This week, your children learned how to properly form the following uppercase letters: Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z. The alphabet is complete (and so is Unit 2)! To reinforce these letters at home, write some lowercase letters on small pieces of paper, fold them up, and put them in a bag. Have your child choose a letter and write the corresponding uppercase letter on a whiteboard or piece of scrap paper. You could also dictate letter sounds and have your child write the corresponding uppercase letter as well!
In Math, we played a coin exchange game to reinforce counting by 5’s. Each child rolled a die and collected that amount of pennies. If they collected 5 pennies they could exchange them for one nickel.
I gave each child an index card and had them draw their own pet. Children who do not own a pet marked their paper with an X. Children with more than one pet drew each pet on a separate card. Next, I invited the children to attach their pictures in the appropriate column on our class graph. When the graph was finished we concluded that the most popular pet in our class was a dog. We also read this cute interactive story that I projected on the whiteboard. Feel free to read this with your child at home!
children added claws, spikes, horns, teeth, etc using different colored paper. They really turned out adorable! Take a look!
On Friday, I read "Sassafras" and we talked about the different ways animals defend themselves. The children sat in a circle with their toy animal and shared what their animals best defense was. They were so proud to "show off" their toy animals!
Well, that about wraps up our week! I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the weekend! I hope you all have a great Superbowl Sunday!!
Also, I want to thank Amelia's Mom for coming in to read a story for Amelia's birthday. The children LOVE when guest readers come in!
Take Care,
