I feel as though it has been forever since I posted on here! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break and a very Happy New Year! I know I did :) Even though it was hard getting up this past Tuesday, it was all worth it when I was welcomed by the kiddos smiling faces! Surprisingly, they seemed excited to be back in school!
This week we began Unit 2 in Fundations. The students were introduced to tapping out/ reading CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. I was so impressed with how fast they were able to catch on. This is not an easy skill for Kindergarten students! First, I displayed each word on the board and said and tapped each sound. Then, the students tapped with me. Next, we blended the sounds as we dragged our thumbs across our fingers and said the word. Below are some of the words we have been practicing in class. Feel free to review these words with your children.

- Draw a line across the numbers from 1 to 10, 11 to 20, and so on.
- Circle the numbers we say when we count by 10s.
- Put a circle around the number 10. Find the number that comes before it and the number that comes after it.
- Circle all the numbers that start with 3.
In Literacy, we read stories about New Years and New Years traditions. We also brainstormed possible New Year’s Resolutions. We echo read a poem and found all of our sight words too!
- Greet: say hello to someone or welcome the person in a friendly way.
-Excited: happy because something good has happened or might happen.
During Guided Reading/Literacy Centers, the children rotated through the following centers:
-Technology Center: The children used their chrome books and explored the website Starfall.
-Write the Room: The children searched for the characters from "The Gingerbread Man" and recorded them on their sheets.
-Math Center: The children built hexagons with pattern blocks and recorded their combinations.
-Writing Center: The children wrote a true story in their writing folders.
