Today the Leader of the Day revealed that we have 9 days left in school :( I know the children are excited for summer break (and so am I), but it's hard for me to imagine not seeing them everyday!
This week in Fundations, we practiced sentence dictation and learned about the importance of proofreading. First, several children were given a word to write on a sentence frame. Then, after reading the sentence, I challenged them to arrange their frames in order so that they displayed the sentence that I read. Check out the sentence they made all on their own!
On Thursday, I showed the students two different books about cows. I explained that some books tell make-believe stories and other books tell us facts that are true.
Then I read the narrative book "Not Now!" Said the Cow by Joanne Oppenheim.
Then, I asked the children the following questions:
-Who are the characters in the story?
-What is the setting?
- What are the main events? What happened first? Then what happened? What happened next? What happened at the end?
Then, I show them the informational book about cows and explained that this book has true facts. We will read this book next week!
During Guided Reading, the children rotated through the following centers:
- Art Center: Children learned how to draw several farm animals.
- Math Center: Children practiced writing numbers 0-30.
- Reading Center: Children read and colored a plant emergent reader.
- Tablets: Children practiced a variety of math and literacy skills.
Young Author's Day was a HUGE success with our guest author Kevin O'Malley. The children (and teachers) were all giggles as he shared his version of "Jack and the Beanstalk." We also really enjoyed the gym activity Mrs. Rutz prepared for us. We earned 22 tickets for our class :)
Warm Regards,
Miss Visicaro
