This was a particularly hard week for me due to the fact the children had a substitute teacher for three consecutive days. Because I was still in the building, I was able to periodically check on them and saw with my very eyes how well behaved and awesome they did! The substitute teacher complimented the class and told me that they were such great listeners! I was so happy! I have the best classes EVER!
With that being said, I would like to thank each one of you for taking time out of your day to meet with me this week :)
In Fundations, we read "We're Going On a Lion Hunt." Before reading, we discussed the title, author and illustrator. Then, the children predicted what the story might be about. After I read the book, we completed a chart together. I asked:
- Who was in the story?
-Where did the story take place?
-What happened?
We also continued tapping out/writing both real and nonsense CVC words and learned some new Trick Words! If you have some time over the break, review your child's Trick Words with him/her. They are just so tricky! Here are the words they have learned so far:
-a
-the
-are
-has
-as
-is
-his
-to
-and
In Math, we played "Mystery Block". I chose a block without revealing it to the class and the children asked yes or no questions to figure out the mystery block. For example, Is it small? Does it have three sides? Is it red? Is it the large blue triangle? After the kiddos asked a question, we removed blocks according to the response. We continued playing until only the mystery block remained. This was a lot of fun! Check it out!

Next, we added to our class collection and recorded the total number of rocks/gems and made two and three dimensional shapes with toothpicks and play dough. The kiddos were so excited to show off their shapes!
We collected 197 rocks and 472 gems!
To introduce our Unit on Chicks, I read "The Chick and The Duckling" and the children created this adorable chick craft with an even cuter poem attached! We will finish these next week:)
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
Take Care,
Mrs. Nork
