The day is almost here! Sunday will be Day 21- the day our chicks hatch! The kiddos are beyond excited and so am I!!! Friday after school, I set up the brooder box and took the cradle off of the incubator. I explained to the children that the hatching process is a very slow process and that we will have to wait until the chicks are fluffy and dry before we can remove them from the incubator and place them in the brooder box. Let's just hope they start to hatch while the kids are there!!!
We have been tracking the growth of our baby chicks. We have sample eggs displayed in the classroom that show what they look like inside their shell. Days 1-19 are pictured below :)
In Math, the children worked with a partner to count how long it took them to walk and tiptoe across the room. First, we practiced counting at a stead beat. To do this, the kiddos clapped as they counted. Then, we predicted if it would take longer to walk across the room or tiptoe. Most of the children thought it would take longer to tiptoe :) After the counting was complete, the children recorded their findings in their math journals.
• Spring Play-dough Work Mats- Children manipulated play-dough to spell Spring words, added details to Spring insects/animals, etc.
• Change the Sound- Children read the word in the flower and changed the beginning or ending sound in the word to spell the picture name and wrote the new word on the line.
• Addition and Subtraction- Children used the pictures to either write an addition sentence or a subtraction sentence.
• Secret Sight Words- Children identified the beginning sound to spell sight words.
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
