With that being said, I would like to thank each one of you for taking time out of your day to meet with me this week. It was great seeing everyone and I'm happy we were able to make it work with all the craziness from last week :)
Speaking of the terrible weather from last week, I was pleasantly surprised and excited to welcome such nice weather this week. To keep track of the ever changing weather, we have been tallying if the weather is reminiscent of the "Lion" or the "Lamb." At the end of the month, we will see what kind of weather March had more of. So far, it's looking promising. Check out our tally chart below!
In Fundations, we are continuing to practice tapping out CVC words as well as find our current and new Trick Words in sentences. The following are the Trick Words we have learned so far:
- and
- are
- the
- to
- a
- is
- his
A great way to practice these words at home is to write them on flashcards. You could hide the words around the house and have your child find them and read them to you :) Why not make learning a game, right?
Also in Fundations, we practiced retelling. I performed "Baby Echo Finds Echo at Last" and then illustrated the story with four simple pictures. I then asked for student volunteers to use the illustrations to retell the story in their own words. The children LOVE sharing their versions and they did such a great job doing so! Ask your child to retell the story using the illustrations pictured below!
The next day, we learned how to skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s using a calculator. Did you know that if you press ON/C and then 2+= and then continue pressing the equal sign the calculator will skip count by 2s for you? The children could not get enough of this awesome little trick.
Also in Math, we discussed symbolic representations of patterns. We used symbols like and X and two vertical lines to represent different movements. The children enjoyed making different patterns using the symbols and then trying them out!
During Guided Reading/Literacy Centers, the children rotated through the following 4 centers:
- Word Work: Students completed Sight Word Printables.
- Math Center - Little Red Riding Hood Playdough Mats: Students created goodies for Grannie's basket, ears for the Big Bad Wolf and more using Playdough.
- Write the Room- Children found and wrote Jack and the Beanstalk words.
- ABC Center - Three Little Pigs Alphabet Tracers: Children helped the wolf find each house by tracing the alphabet in order.
Warm Regards,
Miss Visicaro
