Field Day was by far the most memorable and exciting part of the kiddos Kindergarten year! They LOVED all the awesome activities and even showed good sportsmanship when they didn't win. I was so impressed with the way they handled themselves :) They also really enjoyed eating in the cafeteria with the other Kindergarten classes! They are all so grown up! Thank you Mrs. Rutz, Mr. Jenkins, and our wonderful parent volunteers for all your hard work!
We also celebrated Timur's birthday in the AM class and Rebecca's birthday in the PM class- Happy Birthday to both of you!
Also, the book swap was a huge success! The children loved "shopping" for their books and were all so excited to show me what they selected! Thank you to Mrs. Krawski, Mrs. Goodwin and all the parent volunteers for organizing such a wonderful event.
In Fundations, the children learned two new Trick Words: "of" and "have." We are continuing to practice reading sentences with CVC words and Trick words (i.e. The duck sat on the deck). This is a great skill to practice at home with your child! You can even change a few words around :) For example, have your child erase the word "deck" and write the word "dock."
This week, we began our unit on Plants and Seeds. I read a story about how seeds grow into plants and we discussed the different parts of a plant and their function. Then, the children helped me fill out a tree map on what plants are, have and need. Finally, the children illustrated what plants need to grow and created a flower craft. Take a look :)
I called on a volunteer and directed them to dive the car for about 10 seconds until I said "stop." To find out how far the car moved, we used a tape measure. We started measuring at the starting point and stopped measuring at the spot where the car stopped. I explained that we need to know an objects initial and final positions in order to measure how far it has traveled. The furthest the car moved was about 18 feet! Take a look!
Best,
Mrs. Nork
