I want to thank Danny's mom for coming in to read to the class! The children just LOVE when guest readers come in :)
We also celebrated two birthdays- Happy Birthday to Mallory and Alessandra :)
In Fundations, we spent some time reading sentences and making changes to them. For example, I wrote: Meg had the red hat. Then, I asked a child to change the sentence to: Pat had the red hat. We then tapped out the word "Pat" to check the spelling. I continued this process of dictating changes until our sentence read: Jim had the red mug.
The children also learned two new Trick Words: "or" and "for."
In Math, we played "Roll and Record With Numeral Dice." I gave each pair of children two 1-6 numeral dice, The children rolled their dice and found the total. We talked about counting on from the higher number to solve. Each child recorded their number pair on their recording mat.
Finally, I introduced the "stopwatch" and explained that it is a tool that counts steady beats to measure how long something takes. We discussed that a second is a unit of time used by people around the world. Then, the kiddos predicted how long it would take to pass a "quiet friend" (plush toy) around our room. Then, we used the stopwatch to count the seconds to see how long it took. We also counted how long it took us to jump 20 times and sing the alphabet song! The children had a ball! To conclude the lesson, I connected seconds with minutes and explained that there are 60 seconds in one minute.
With Mother's Day quickly approaching, the kiddos raced the clock to complete your Mother's Day gifts and cards on time. It truly amazes me to see how much they can accomplish in such a short amount of time. As I walked around the room, they were all so eager to "show of" their work. They worked so hard coloring their cards to make them look like their mommies. The most exciting part was when I painted their hands! They laughed when the wet paint brush touched their fingers! I hope you enjoy your gifts! The children loved coloring in the insert on the flower pots and creating the flowers with their cute little faces as the flower's center!
Ask your insect expert about some of these fun facts:
- How many legs do all insects have? 6
- How many body parts do all insects have? 3
- Where are an insect’s antennae? On their head
- Is a spider an insect? No
- Can all insects fly? No.
- What happens to an insect’s skin when it grows? Every time they start to get bigger, they have to break out of their old skin and then wait for a new skin to harden! This is called MOLTING.
I just LOVE these ladybugs the kiddos created. They spin around to show the lifecycle :)
We also discussed how farm animals help people meet certain basic needs. They provide people with food, clothing products :)
During Guided Reading/Literacy Centers, the children rotated through the following centers:
- Math Center: Children placed 10 counters in a cup. Then, they spilled the counters on the table and sorted them by color (yellow and red). Then they recorded their number pairs on a ten frame.
- ABC Center- Children completed Trick Word worksheets.
- Tablets: Children played games on Starfall.
- Write the Room: Children counted each set of objects and recorded the answer on their recording sheet. Then, they compared the two numbers and colored the object that is more.
Take Care,
Mrs. Nork
