In Fundations, the children were introduced to 3 new letters: l-lamp-/l/, h-hat-/h/, and k-kite-/k/. This week, we focused on the final sound in words. I emphasized the last sound in several words and selected students to come get the standard sound card the ended with the last sound in the words. If they located the correct letter, they said the letter-keyword-sound and wrote the letter on the board following my verbalization.
The students also heard another Echo the Owl story titled "Baby Echo Flies." They really enjoyed it! Check it out below!
• If they guessed too high, I moved the right-hand monster along the number line until it covered the number guessed.
• If they guessed too low, I moved the left-hand monster along the number line until it covered the number guessed.
I called on the children to continue guessing numbers until the correct number was guessed, or "squeezed," between the two monsters. The kiddos absolutely LOVED this game!
The next day, we practiced number formation on our "hands!" I have adorable hand-shaped whiteboards that the children hold up to "reveal" their answers. I love incorporating these in my math lessons! Take a look at the presentation I created to go along with this lesson :)
We also read lines from the story and the children found the corresponding picture to place in the pocket chart.
- Word Work Center- Children wrote the beginning sound for each picture in Thanksgiving emergent reader.
- Writing Center- Children illustrated/wrote a true story by stretching out the sounds they heard.
- Write the Room-Children searched for Thanksgiving themed pictures around the room and counted and wrote how many.
- Math Center- Children rolled the cube and added the correct shape to their turkey until it was completed.
- ABC Center- Children matched uppercase letters and lowercase letters and circled beginning sounds.
- Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week are half days!
Wishing you all a peaceful and relaxing weekend!
Many Blessings,
Miss Visicaro
