Also in Fundations, I collected objects that ended with the letters taught so far and put them in a big shopping bag. Then, I called on a student to pick something out of the bag. I asked the student what they pulled out and had them find the letter that ended the word. Next, they said the letter-keyword-sound and the class repeated. Finally, the student wrote the letter following my verbalization on our class writing grid.
In Math we played "Monster Squeeze!" I introduced the "monsters" and directed the children to look at numbers 0–10 on the board. I placed the monsters facing each other so they were bracketing the numbers, with one monster just to the left of 0 and the other to the right of 10. Then, I asked the children to guess the number I was thinking of in my head.
• If they guessed too high, I moved the right-hand monster along the number line until it covered the number guessed.
• If they guessed too low, I moved the left-hand monster along the number line until it covered the number guessed.
I called on the children to continue guessing numbers until the correct number was guessed, or "squeezed," between the two monsters. The kiddos absolutely LOVED this game!
The next day, we practiced number formation on our "hands!" I have adorable hand-shaped whiteboards that the children held up to "reveal" their answers. I love incorporating these in my math lessons! Take a look at the presentation I created to go along with this lesson :)

During Guided Reading, the children rotated through the following centers:
- ABC Center- Children matched uppercase and lowercase letters with a picture that had the same beginning sound to create snowmen.
- Elf Write the Room- Children walked around the room with a clipboard, located each shelf, read the uppercase letter, and wrote the lowercase letter on the recording sheet beside the correct picture.
- Math Center- Children rolled play dough into "ornaments" to show the number on their play dough mat.
- Word Work- Children chose a lightbulb card and stamped the letter on the lightbulb. Then they drew a picture of something that started with that letter sound.
We used our sense of sight to identify different attribute blocks. We also played some rounds of "I Spy."
We used our sense of touch to describe different mystery objects in mystery bags. The children reached in each bag and felt the object using their hands and came up with descriptive words to describe how each object felt. Take a look!
We also celebrated several birthdays in November: Jack, Duron, Ellie, Grant, and Aryan. A special thank you to Aryan's Mom for reading a story to our class! We love when guest readers come in!
Well, that does it for me! I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your weekend. I look forward to seeing you all at our music concert on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm!
- The front door will open at 6:45pm.
- Please bring your child to our classroom at 6:45 before finding a seat in the gym.
