In Literacy, I read "Duck for President" and talked about Election Day and why it is important to vote. I explained the voting process and then told the children that they would have the opportunity to "vote" for who they thought should be in charge of the farm- Duck or Farmer Brown.
The children wore their vote badges proudly as they filled out their voting ballots and placed them in our ballot box. Then, we gathered to the rug and counted and tallied the votes. The morning class thought that Farmer Brown would make a better leader and the afternoon class felt Duck would make the better leader. Not only was this activity fitting for Election Day, but it also reinforced tally marks and counting.Take a look at our results below!
Also in Math the children learned position words. I introduced this concept by sharing the video: Where's the Monkey. The children loved it so much I shared it with you below :) Following the video, we read “Where is the Apple?” as a class (also shared below). The children wowed me with their amazing reading. They used the picture clues to help them read the words! Finally, I gave a "quiet friend" (plush toy) to each child. I then used spatial vocabulary as I gave directions to position the toy (i.e. place your quiet friend on top of your head, in front of you, under your legs, next to your friend, between your knees). It was so rewarding to hear all the giggles and excitement in the room.
Well, that concludes our short little week! I hope that everyone is enjoying the long weekend! I look forward to a great week ahead!
Warm Regards,
