Although this week was a short week, I still wanted to briefly mention what we covered in Kindergarten.
In Fundations, the children learned two new letters, p-pan-/p/ and j-jug-/j/. To date, we have learned a total of 17 letters!! The children are excited that we are almost at the end! When introducing these two letters, I explained that the lines for each of these letters go past the grass line and extend all the way down to the worm line.
In Math, the children finished their number books and practiced counting a group of objects to reinforce one-to-one correspondence as well as number writing.
In Literacy, I read "Duck for President" and talked about Election Day and why it is important to vote. I explained the voting process and then told the children that they would have the opportunity to "vote" on a class reward. We are nearly at the top of our celebration marble jar so I thought it was the perfect opportunity for the children to vote on a reward. I gave the children three choices (shown below) and each child announced to the class which reward was their favorite. Not only was this activity fitting for Election Day, but it also reinforced tally charts and counting. Surprisingly, 16 out of 18 students voted for the treasure chest! I explained to the children that when they reach the top of the jar, each child will get to select one prize from the treasure chest.
Warm Regards,
