I also introduced alliteration to the kiddos, which they LOVED! I explained that alliteration is the repetition of the same sound and then I read alliteration posters (without showing the children) and had them guess the repeating sound they heard. They did such a great job with this :) Finally, we sorted two words that have the same beginning sound vs two words that have different beginning sounds.
Then, I invited the kiddos to come up with other ways to show 4.
Then, the children made representations for other numbers by showing their number four different ways.
The next day, the kiddos worked with a partner to create their four different number representations and each partnership "showed off" their hard work by standing up in front of the class and displaying their work for the rest of the class to see. I was so impressed with how well the children worked together. They took turns, listened to other ideas, and delegated different tasks- they are so grown up!
- Pattern Center- Children selected a pattern card and colored recording sheet to match by extending the pattern.
- Word Work Center: Children wrote the beginning sound for each picture.
- Reading Center- Children read and colored a Fall Color Book.
- Math Center- Children rolled a number on a ten frame die and colored in the corresponding number on a recording sheet with the matching color.
That's it for now! I look forward to meeting with you soon for conferences. They begin this Thursday!
Take Care,
