To wrap up the month of September, the children opened up their new science journals and tallied the number of sunny days, rainy days, cloudy days, and partly cloudy days, We analyzed our data and concluded that during the month of September we had the most sunny days.
In Fundations, the children were introduced to letters i and u. We spent a lot of time talking about vowels and how important they are. Ask them to sing the "vowel song" to you :) I've included it below! We also reviewed that sentences have capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end.

Match up With Dot Cards:
• The goal of the game is to turn over two cards (a pair) that have an equal number of dots.
The children LOVED this game and were so excited when they found a match!
• Players turn over their top cards, and then say and compare the number of dots on the two cards.
• The player whose card has more dots (a greater number) takes both cards.
• If the cards have an equal number of dots (the same number), both players turn over another card and the player with the greater number of dots takes all four cards.
The next day, we did the very same using a shorter book as the standard (Standard Book 2). Take a look at our results below :)
During Reading, we read and discussed the story "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" by Laura Numeroff. We discussed why we thought the story was funny and recalled specific details from the story. We also learned 4 new vocabulary words from the book: generous, nuisance, energetic and exhausted. It was so much fun acting out these words with the kiddos :)
Finally, we discussed how words help us better understand the pictures and stories that we write. Writers spell words by saying them slowly, like stretching out a rubber band. I modeled stretching out the word "tables" and wrote the sounds I heard next to my illustration. Then, the children helped me spell: seat, rug, and board. What was so amazing was how they were able to transfer what they learned during our lesson to their own writing! They were so excited to show me all the words they spelled!
Many Blessings,
Mrs. Nork
