The afternoon class paraded outside as they waved and smiled to everyone in the crowd. They were all so proud to "show off" their amazing costumes!! When we got back into our classroom, we were welcomed by our class parents and made an adorable skeleton craft and played pass the pumpkin. A big thank you to Mia's mom and Avery's mom for organizing all of this and making our day so memorable!
In Fundations, I introduced two new letters, e-Ed-/e/ and r-rat-/r/. Letter e is a particularly difficult letter to write because it begins in between the plane line and the grass line.
In Math, I demonstrated how to sort blocks by shape by placing the shapes on a bar graph. Then, the children watched as I removed each shape and made an "x" in the square to record my data. Finally, each child was given a handful of blocks to sort. After they recorded their results by crossing out the appropriate number of squares, we compared our results. They are all such super sorters!!!
The next day, I retold the story page by page in my own words, stopping to ask questions such as "then what happens? What do you remember about this part?
Finally, the children spent some time reading independently. The kiddos are doing a great job building their reading stamina :)
During Writer's Workshop, I explained that the children will "fancy up" the story they have been working on so they can publish it and share it with their classmates. I modeled using a checklist on a piece of my own writing to make it the best it can be. Take a look at the checklist below. After the children finish revising their stories, they are going to create a cover for their book and color in the pictures :)
