In Fundations we introduced two new letters, d-dog-/d/ and s-snake- /s/. In addition to our Drill Sounds, Vowel Extensions, Magnetic Journals, and Dry Erase Boards/Student Notebooks, we practiced capitalizing names in sentences, and worked more with syllables and rhyming words.
In Science this week we learned all about the life cycle of a pumpkin. We also colored a pumpkin lifecycle book with the predictable pattern "I see a ...." so the children could read it on their own by using picture clues. Both "I" and "see" are on our word wall so the children have had a lot of practice with reading these words. Be sure to ask your little one to read it to you at home! Below you will see a picture of the lifecycle of a pumpkin sequencing activity we did at the carpet after reading "It's Pumpkin Time."
Each child received a frame and ten counters.
We discussed how a ten frame is similar and different to a five frame and I explained that they can show different numbers on their ten frames by placing one counter on each square. Children showed various numbers on their ten frames and shared their representations (i.e. "I have 2 on the top and 3 on the bottom").
Then, the children learned all about rectangles. We compared the square and the rectangle and discussed what is the same about these shapes and what is different. Then, I held up other four- sided shape cards and asked how they were like a rectangle and how they were different.
Finally, the children solved number stories using their number story mats. I posed questions on the board and the children drew pictures to help them solve the problems. Take a look below :)
- Math Center: Children practiced sorting by various attributes
- Play dough: Children used play dough to form sight words, trace/write sight words, and trace/read sentences with sight words
- ABC Center: Children matched uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Writing: Children illustrated/wrote reasons they like Fall.
