Good news!! This week, both classes earned their 3rd owl in their tree! They enjoyed building with blocks in place of "morning work" as their reward! I am so proud of them!
I want to start by sharing some class highlights from this past week :)
In Fundations, letters b and f were added to our collection of letters introduced/practiced. The students completed a variety of activities that reinforced these letters/sounds throughout the week including echoing (repeating) letter name-keyword-sound, skywriting, and sound dictation. The children were introduced to their "magnetic journals" to help them identify letter sounds. They also learned that sentences start with a capital letter and end with a period. I've included a copy of the powerpoint presentation I used to reinforce these two tricky letters...It also allows the children to get up and exercise!
Another exciting math lesson this week included a number scavenger hunt around the room where the children had to find each number on their paper in a different area of the room. They LOVED walking around with their clipboards and were so proud to have crossed off every number on their list! This activity was a huge hit!
First, I modeled how to pick a topic. I explained that I want to write about what I know and not something imaginary. Then, I showed them my illustration of my fiancé and I at the farm picking pumpkins.
"Last Fall I went to the farm. I got a pumpkin. Now I am going to write my words." The children helped me Label my picture by stretching out the sounds they heard. They also helped me write my sentence "I picked out a pumpkin." They did a super job stretching out all the sounds they heard!
Best,
