In Fundations, letter f was added to our collection of letters introduced/practiced. The children were also introduced to their "magnetic journals" to help them identify letter sounds. Not only have they been doing an excellent job remembering all of our letter-keyword-sound cards, but they also played an important role in helping me "act out" the story titled "Echo Finds Dinner." I included the story for your viewing in case you want to discuss it with your child!

Another exciting math lesson this week included a number scavenger hunt around the room where the children had to find each number on their paper in a different area of the room. They LOVED walking around with their clipboards and were so proud to have crossed off every number on their list! This activity was a huge hit!
I had the children stand in a circle and chose a target number (10). The first child began counting with one. The pattern continued around the circle with each child saying the next number in sequence. The child who said the target number sat down and the count began again at one. The seated child was skipped as the count continued around the circle with another child sitting each time the target number was reached. We kept counting around the circle until all the children were sitting.
- Before reading I explained that unkind words can and do hurt. They hurt hearts. I explained that as Chrysanthemum (main character) enters school she is bullied by her classmates about her name.
- Then, I showed the children a large red heart. Every time one of the characters in the book made fun of Chrysanthemum, we crumpled up the paper heart.
- After the story, we tried to smooth out the wrinkled heart. I shared that it never is quite the same.
- I wrote on heart "Before you speak, Think and be smart. It's hard to fix A wrinkled heart!" The children added band-aids with their name on it too :)
- Journals (practiced our sight word "me")
- Write the Room (Labels around the room)
- Highway Letters
- Playdough Letters
- Roll a shape
