I can hardly believe our first week of kindergarten is over! I am so proud of the progress your little ones have made so quickly! They are now getting into the routine of putting their backpacks on their hooks, and putting their papers from their seatsack inside their folders. This is not an easy task! The children then get busy completing their "morning work" which I review and send home the next day. If your child was unable to complete their morning work in the allotted time, feel free to work on it with them at home! Once we really get in the swing of things, the morning work will reinforce the concepts taught in school. Boy, do I wish we had more time in the day!! I've included a slideshow presentation below that explains our morning routine. Feel free to review this with your child so they quick;y become experts :) Ask them to tell you their number as well! ![]()
On Tuesday, I introduced the classroom rules to the children. The kiddos shared why rules keep us safe and what rules they would come up with if they were Mrs. Nork. They had such great ideas! After reviewing each of our five rules and reviewing our "Good Listeners" Anchor Chart, I read one of my favorite books about rules/safety tips: "Officer Buckle and Gloria." Check out our classroom rules below! The children were also hard at work creating an adorable First Day of School Pencil Craft. To create this craft they had to cut, glue, write, and color! Boy oh boy was I asking a lot of them on their first two days! Once again, they surprised me with their awesome fine motor skills!!! In morning meeting, the children learned our days of the week/months of the year song. The Leader of the Day was in charge of graphing the weather, dressing our weather frog, counting the days in school, sharing the date, and recording the temperature. The most exciting job of the Leader of the Day was sharing their special show-and-tell item. This week we saw stuffed animals, a snow globe, firetrucks, and so much more! In Fundations, the children were introduced to Echo the owl and Baby Echo. Echo's job is to help the children remember their letters/letter sounds. The children learned about the special lines on our Large Writing Grid, the proper writing position, pencil grip, and how to skywrite. This week we learned the letter t. Ask your child to "echo" or repeat the Large Sound Card below! In Math, the children were introduced to our growing number line, received their class jobs (which sparked a conversation about responsibility). learned how to "sign in" in the morning to track student attendance, and discussed weather words while echo reading "Look at the Weather." Click on the file below to review the story with your child :) ![]()
We also discussed the importance of respecting ourselves, others, and our school. The children were introduced to our "starbucks" reward system for showing good character. We explored this topic further by reading one of my favorite books "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?" Ask your child about the imaginary bucket over their head :) We brainstormed and charted ways to be bucket fillers and ways to be bucket dippers. Then, we completed my poor choices vs. good choices pocket chart activity. Thank you to everyone who attended Back-to-School Night! It was so nice meeting you!
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! Warm Regards, Mrs. Nork P.S. Ask your child about the "quiet friend" that visited them on Friday :)

Thank you so much for doing this! I'm sure it's time consuming but I appreciate it so much. When we ask her what she learned in school each day she says "I can't remember" so this blog is awesome. Thanks again!

Thank you Mrs.Nork for doing this! It's a wonderful blog that definitely helping parents know/understand more about what they learned at school. I just realized why Isabella called me "bucket filler" the other night at bed time after hugs and kisses! ☺️💖
